Fresh Start

Sunrise from my balcony in Rodanthe

When I left the corporate world in February, I drove to the Outer Banks. The Outer Banks have always held a special place in my heart for rejuvenation and tranquility, particularly in the off-season. They offer an opportunity to slow down and let the ocean speak.

When I left, precious few people knew where I was headed, or that I was going anywhere for that matter. I had made a significant life change and was now traveling solo. No need to cause a fuss. I’d reach out to people in good time when I got back.

When I arrived at my destination, I was so happy to find that my condo was just as lovely as it was in the pictures. It was right on the shore. I woke before sunrise every morning (not a morning person, folks!) and had coffee on the balcony before walking down the beach to Rodanthe Pier. I found enormous seashells thanks to some wicked storms that came through, not to mention the fact that there were a whole 4 people on the beach bundled up each day - me being one of them!

I took THOUSANDS of pictures. I painted. I visited the Hatteras and Bodie Lighthouses and cooked every night. I napped (I don’t nap). I read “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert for the 3rd time and didn’t watch a minute of television (confession time…serial binge-watcher here). And I got that tattoo I’ve been wanting for YEARS.

There I was. I was still in there.

Now I can get on with opening my business.
